If you’ve been looking to improve the performance and handling of your classic GM A-Body, F-Body or X-Body, Ridetech recently launched their Tall AFX Hub Spindles specifically for these popular applications.
Designed for the above referenced chassis (complete fitment listed below), installation of their hub spindles accomplishes the following improvements:
- Lowers your vehicle 2” without any required changes to the rest of the front suspension components. Maintains appropriate suspension geometry. Drop is accomplished by the design of the hub spindle itself (rear suspension will have to be addressed in order to lower the vehicle a similar amount).
- Taller hub spindle design (1.75” taller) allows improved negative camber gain through suspension travel and roll center, two critical components when it comes to improved handling.
These improvements are realized without altering vehicle track width. If you are already utilizing an existing Ridetech pin spindle, these are a great options as you can upgrade to these hub spindles with no issues as they share the same geometry.
These hub spindles are destined to last the life of the vehicle thanks to their high tensile ductile iron construction and durable black e-coat finish, offering decades of reliability, performance, and corrosion resistance. As a nice touch, the casting includes our iconic Ridetech for tasteful tie to the brand.
Best of all, these hub spindles fit a wide variety of the A, F, and X body platform cars, whether they are equipped with stock steering arms or are already upgraded to our Ridetech TruTurn systems. This is accomplished thanks to a design feature that includes a “flippable” threaded steering arm insert.
Depending on what vehicle you have and what steering arms are installed, the insert can be installed in a “top” or “bottom” position, achieving wide fitment and adaptability across the following platforms:
- 64-72 A-Body (Chevelle, Skylark, Cutlass, etc. with stock steering arms)
- 67-69 F-Body (Camaro and Firebird w/ stock steering arms or TruTurn)
- 68-74 X-Body (Nova, Acadian w/ stock steering arms or TruTurn)
- 62-67 X-Body (Nova, Chevy II with Ridetech TruTurn system)
- 63-82 Corvette (using Ridetech TruTurn system)
A positive byproduct of upgrading your classic with these hub spindles are the wide array of modern OE and aftermarket brake packages you are now able to run. It is widely understood among autocross and road course circles that OE C5, C6, and C7 factory brakes are high performing and very capable upgrades.
With the integration of our new hub spindles, Corvette hub and brake packages are now a bolt-on upgrade. In order to install these, Ridetech’s caliper adapter brackets are required, so make sure you keep that in mind when planning your upgrades.
If you’re looking at getting everything you need in one place, we’ve designed a complete Wilwood Superlite kit that comes with everything needed including 6 piston front Superlite calipers and 4 piston Superlites out back along with 13” drilled and slotted rotors front and rear.
While adding more horsepower is the natural first impulse to a classic car, improving the vehicle’s stopping ability shouldn’t be overlooked for long. Adapting an OE or aftermarket set of these brakes to your classic muscle car vastly improves upon their factory capabilities (almost cutting a 60-0 MPH emergency/performance brake test in half from the original brake technology) and fits well within the Ridetech mantra of bringing modern performance to classic vehicles.
Purchase a set of new AFX hub spindles and you’ll receive all necessary hardware for installation (minus ball joints). We also recommend updating your alignment to the following settings to make the most out of your vehicle’s improved handling capabilities. Ridetech recommends the following alignment settings:
- Camber: Street use*: – .5 degrees | Track: -1.0 to -1.5 degrees
- Caster: Street use*: +3.0 to +5.0 degrees | Track: +5.0 – 7.0 degrees
- Toe: Street use*: 1/16” to 1/8” toe-in | Use case dependent
*For a track alignment recommendation, please note these are general recommendations. Depending on intended purpose you track setup recommendations may differ depending on several variables, i.e. intended purpose, autocross vs. road course, vehicle setup, etc.
