Ridetech Fox Body Hot Rod Magazine Feature

Recently at Ford Festival, we got the chance to share our Fox Body Mustang project with Hot Rod Magazine’s and stage in front of their photographer’s lens. The project has been a long time coming and it felt great to get a chance to sit back and reflect on the team’s efforts that have gotten us this far.

Since finishing up the build, we’ve campaigned the car at several events including Good Guys Texas, Hyperfest, and Holley’s Ford Festival. We’re looking forward to getting it back out in the wild after a few updates over the off season.

Special thanks goes to several Ridetech team members including events manager Aaron Smith, marketing specialist Jason Brady, engineering tech’s Josh Petry and Dylan Mason, machinist John Hochgesang, tech sales team member Greg Schneider, and others. These guys have spent a lot of time and effort cumulatively to get the car where it is today.

While many Fox Body builds are only after a specific horsepower and torque number and don’t care how they meet their goal (i.e. GM LS sourced power), for this application we wanted to keep things Blue Oval powered and forge ahead while retaining some of that Ford Racing history.

To that end a 358 C.I. Ford Racing R452 graphic block was paired with Roush Yates C3-style heads along with some magic sauce courtesy of SPEC Racing Engines. That combined with the Engler injection setup and Haltech Nexus R5 ECU ended up providing us with a very capable 800 horsepower to work with.

Inside the cockpit, it’s all business, with a stripped out interior, FIA spec roll-cage, and all the necessary tactile interfaces for the driver. Sparco was tapped on the shoulder for one of their R350 steering wheels and a set of EVO fixed bucket seats. Switchgear and data monitoring are all Haltech while the transmission and shifter level come from Bowler.

Of course, under the car is where things really take a vast departure from the factory setup. A full Ridetech SLA MacPherson strut delete front suspension and a bolt in REAR IRS cradle give this Mustang much more cornering capability and tunability than ever possible with the suspension it rolled off the factory floor with. Both of these suspension options are capable of accepting Ridetech ShockWave air suspension or a static coil-over suspension. In this case, we’re running our triple adjustable (low- and high-speed compression, with low-speed rebound) TQ coil-overs for maximum adjustability. This is great when trying to adapt the suspension to various surfaces.

As with any high level pro-touring style build that demands reliability, consistency, and performance at the limit, we opted for a set of Forgeline GS1R wheels to keep our Mustang rolling on the autocross or the road course. Sticky 200 treadwear Kumho Ecsta V730s measuring 275/30/18 at all four corners offer a great square tire setup that make a great pairing for the vehicles wheel and tire combination.

Mashing on the brake pedal cycles the six piston Wilwood calipers up front and four piston rear calipers out back.  All of these systems combine to make for one exciting rip around the autocross and road course.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the following industry partners that also came together to complete the build: Engler Injection, Haltech, and SPEC Racing Engines, Forgeline, Bowler Transmission, Dewitt’s, Wilwood, Ultimate Headers, & Kumho Tire.

That’s it for this one Ridetech nation. Thanks for reading. We’ll catch you on the next one. If you’re looking to learn more about our Ridetech Fox Body Mustang, check out the below stories.
